Illadelph Glass: The History and Pop Culture

Illadelph Glass: The History and Pop Culture

on

If you’ve heard of Illadelph Glass, you probably know for yourself why it’s one of the most highly sought-after brands of glass on the market. And yes, we said one of them, but don't worry, Sovereignty and Toro fans, we hear you. Nonetheless, Illadelph, which was started in 2002 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has become known for crossing exceptional craftsmanship of innovative designs with an artistic touch cementing itself as a staple in the glass community. However, obtaining an Illadelph, let alone an expensive and exclusive one can be risky, depending on whether you know the seller.

While the brand started in 2002, over the next two decades, as cannabis grew tremendously and gained more acceptance in the United States, the glass community and Illadelph piggybacked off the acceptance. They gained exposure in the mainstream eye thanks to being featured with some of the biggest pop culture icons we can name. They’ve done many collaborations with Mike Tyson to release pieces with Mike’s signature. One of those Mike Tyson pieces was featured on Snoop Dogg's GGN show, with Snoop Dogg and Mike Tyson smoking from it. Wiz Khalida and Lil Uzi Vert were pictured together at Creep Records Store in Philadelphia using a Rasta Signature Series Beaker, and Bobby Shmurda even featured himself on his Instagram using an Illadelph beaker in August 2022. To Bobby’s credit, he even had a beaker bumper on the piece!

That's not it!

Philadelphia's own It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia was the first to feature Illadelph glass on air with a blue straight tube on its show, and the cast used a custom coil on the set! Many times throughout the show, you will also see Illadelph stickers in random places, like at their bar and on Charlie’s piano. Last but not least, in 2019, an Illadelph White Label Signature Series Beaker was featured on the show Daybreak Season 1 Episode 5. Whether you’re a fan of Illadelph or not, at least there are more shows featuring better glass than the cheap $30 beaker or a homemade water bottle smoking device to show people smoking on TV shows!

With all this said, buying Illadelph glass and other high-end glass has become more difficult over the years as the growing popularity of glass brings good people and bad people with ill intentions to the market, such as counterfeits and sellers looking for an opportunity to scam. First off, to buy a brand new Illadelph set, you can’t buy it on Illadelph’s site as they don’t have a full product selection, so you need to inquire through Illadelph’s gallery or through an Illadelph authorized retailer, which a handful of those retailers sell with RefCheck.

So make sure to check Illadelph’s authorized retailers online or buy through RefCheck to make sure you’re getting an authentic new Illadelph piece! Be sure not to buy from a shop carrying known counterfeits, which is featured on Illadelph’s site too.

And where do we begin about the dangers of buying glass in a resale market like Instagram or Facebook? Fake profiles, sellers sending empty packages, sellers not being truthful about the condition of their piece, or not even knowing better or paying attention to detail. So many things can go wrong.

Imagine you send $5,000 to a seller, and the piece doesn’t come. Or you send $5,000, and it does come, and the piece is broken. Or the piece isn’t broken, but there is bloom or a crack in the glass on the set that the seller didn’t disclose or didn’t see?

These are all reasons why it’s so important to make sure you’re working with the right seller or with RefCheck. We verify the authenticity and condition of every piece that is sold on our platform, whether it comes from our verified retailer or from a seller, you know you’re protected and getting exactly what you expected. That means every piece on the platform that isn’t coming from an authorized retailer of RefCheck (every used piece) gets shipped to RefCheck for verification first. We will check the condition in person and give you a full report to make sure the condition matches the seller’s listing on RefCheck when they posted it. Never worry again about a dishonest seller and work with RefCheck to ensure the process of buying a special piece anywhere in the United States is easy and safe.
